X kills Communities, forcing admins into XChat group links

Communities is getting shut down and replaced with link-based XChat groups, forcing organizers to move fast or lose their setup. The original cutoff was May 6, with admins told to pin a public group chat link so members could rejoin inside XChat.

Backlash bought more time and bigger rooms. The deadline moved to May 30, and group capacity jumped from 350 to 500, with a stated target of 1,000 within weeks. The pitch is simplification: ditch low-usage forums, push people into large chats, and lean on Custom Timelines (75+ topics) for discovery instead.
