Cline is giving users free access to Gemini 3.8 Flash, pushing the baseline for coding and tool-use models. The model reportedly scores 41 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index and beats GPT-5.6 Luna, DeepSeek v4.1 Flash, and Qwen3.8 on benchmarks.

The bigger pressure comes from the hardware-like specs: 291 tokens per second and a 1-million-token context window. That arrives after the rapid jump from Gemini 3.6 Flash to 3.7 and 3.8, according to commentary following Cline’s September 24 announcement.
