Federal Reserve shifts bank supervision away from Reserve Banks

The Federal Reserve is moving bank supervision out of its regional Reserve Bank-led model and into five regions covering the states. That changes who runs oversight: the structure is being organized centrally under Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman rather than around the existing Reserve Banks.

Bowman said the redesign is now moving toward implementation, with the Fed set to advertise positions for the new regional leaders over the next few months. The planned structure contains five regions.
