Manchester City’s alleged financial manipulation topped £900 million
Manchester City was found guilty of financial-rule breaches covering nine Premier League seasons, from 2009/10 through 2017/18. The independent commission also found sham contracts with commercial partners, artificially inflated revenue, reduced costs, and failures to cooperate with investigators.
The scale is the part that makes this more than a paperwork dispute: evidence in the findings put the artificial revenue and cost impact above £900 million. The verdict now moves the fight from whether breaches happened to what punishment follows.
City rejected the decision and said it would appeal, calling the commission’s opinion unsafe because of errors in law, principle, and fact. Sanctions have not been decided, while the Football Association reviews what it called significant implications for the integrity of the game.
