UK 10-year gilt yields top 5% tightening conditions before BoE acts

Borrowing costs are already doing the tightening. UK 10-year gilt yields pushed above 5% and 30-year hit around 5.7%, so financial conditions are getting stricter even with rates on hold at 3.75%.

The split wasn’t about easing either. The BoE laid out inflation paths under the Iran war shock: 3.6% by end-2026 in a best case, 3.7% central, and 6.2% by Q1 2027 in a worst case. That keeps the pressure skewed toward hikes next, not cuts, even after an 8-1 vote to sit tight.
