ICML 2026 hands free registration to 4,439 top reviewers

ICML 2026 is turning peer review into something you can actually get paid for, at least indirectly. The conference gave 4,439 reviewers Gold status with free registration and marked another 4,437 as Silver, out of 17,749 people who reviewed at least one paper.

The bar wasn’t symbolic: reviewers had to complete at least three reviews, finish all active-paper assignments, and rank in the top 25% or next 25% by area chairs. ICML is also tying this to financial aid decisions due May 18, while 1,647 of 1,691 area chairs are getting free registration too.
