Mistral puts its 1-trillion-parameter Large 4 model behind an API

Mistral is putting a 1-trillion-parameter model into API access now, but the version users can download is still planned for later this month. Large 4 is natively multimodal, with 49 billion active parameters, making the headline size less representative of the compute used on each request.

The model is available through Mistral’s API and Cloud infrastructure, while the final model and open weights are planned before the end of October. OpenRouter’s public preview lists a 1-million-token context window and outputs up to 256,000 tokens.
