Google moves Gemini 4 into post-training for a 2026 release

Google has moved Gemini 4 into post-training, putting its next frontier model on track for a release before the end of 2026. That gives Google a new push in its effort to close the gap with Anthropic and OpenAI.
DeepMind chief Koray Kavukcuoglu disclosed the timeline on September 24, but the launch timing remains forward-looking. The separate Gemma 4 updates about local, on-device deployments through the Antigravity SDK are not the Gemini 4 release. The target is before year-end 2026.
