South Korea puts up to $200 billion behind U.S. energy projects

South Korea is putting up to $200 billion behind a U.S. energy buildout that includes Alaska LNG, eight large nuclear reactors and a 6.5-gigawatt natural-gas power facility in Encinal, Texas. That moves Alaska LNG from a long-stalled proposal into a much larger foreign-backed project package.

More than $50 billion is designated for Alaska LNG, which officials say would deliver nearly 4 billion cubic feet of LNG per day and create more than 10,000 jobs. The White House said the investments could produce $10 billion in Alaskan energy savings, as part of South Korea’s broader $350 billion U.S. commitment under last year’s trade deal.
