Bittensor’s proposed Gamma credits burn Alpha to pay for subnet services
Gamma would let Bittensor subnets buy compute, inference, data, and other services from one another without routing every transaction through outside infrastructure. That gives the network a path toward a self-contained service economy, but it also raises the question of whether tradable credits create a new way to extract TAO.
The proposed system burns Alpha, the token tied to an individual subnet, and mints usage credits priced by an oracle. Burning $10 worth of Alpha mints 10 Gamma credits, with the balance fixed as Alpha’s price changes and usable only for the designated subnet’s services. Gamma is not finalized; transferability and whether Alpha already handles the same job remain open questions.
