Apple cuts roughly six engineering director roles to speed product cycles

Apple has cut engineering program-management layers as it pushes toward faster product cycles. Reports say the company is also considering year-round launches instead of relying so heavily on the traditional spring and fall schedule.

The broader plan is to put engineers closer to senior executives, expand the device lineup and get more revenue from existing products and services. A separate proposal to automate support with AI and potentially cut about 5,000 AppleCare positions was put on hold. Roughly six engineering director roles have been cut.
