Anthropic locks $100B AWS spend, 5GW Trainium in Amazon deal
This turns Anthropic into a decade-long AWS customer with hard spending and capacity targets, not just a startup partner. The deal ties funding directly to infrastructure: billions in investment on one side, and massive guaranteed cloud usage on the other.
Amazon is putting in $5B now with up to $20B more tied to milestones, on top of the $8B already invested. In return, Anthropic commits to over $100B in AWS spend over 10 years and locks in up to 5 gigawatts of Trainium compute for Claude. Part of the funding is structured as compute credits, blending financing with a long-term procurement contract.
