Shared AI model failures could amplify financial-market price moves

A shared AI failure could now spread through financial markets because many firms rely on similar models. If access to one of those systems were lost or the model malfunctioned, the resulting disruption could amplify price moves rather than stay contained to one user or company.

ECB President Christine Lagarde said the risk is tied to concentration: a small number of models becoming embedded across markets. She also called for Europe to build domestic AI capabilities so access is not controlled elsewhere.
