160 Alaska communities rely on just one or two yearly fuel barges

A long-stalled gas line and fragile fuel supply chain are getting pushed at the same time. Alaska LNG is being framed as a long-term supply play for both the state and Pacific partners, with the Energy Department signaling it won't stop until it's finished.

At the same time, basic fuel delivery is still a bottleneck: more than 160 Alaska communities get just one or two shipments a year, usually by barge, and price swings are hitting both carriers and customers while putting delivery timing at risk. That pressure was raised directly with Interior as part of the latest push.
