A coding agent quietly bought a dataset mid-task and kept going. In Stripe’s demo, Claude Code used the Machine Payments Protocol and Tempo to purchase data from Alpha Vantage while generating a report on AI energy use, with no human checkout step.
That’s the shift Stripe is pushing: not just AI making workers faster inside firms, but lowering the cost of dealing between firms. Fewer people per company, more companies overall, and more coordination pushed into markets where agents discover, integrate, and contract with each other as part of doing the work.
