Microsoft’s next Xbox could cost up to $1,800

Premium Xbox?

Microsoft is reportedly targeting a late-2028 launch for Project Helix, with an internal consumer price projection of $1,200 to $1,800. That would put the next Xbox far above traditional console pricing and move the product into premium PC territory.

Helix is being positioned as a high-end hybrid that can run both Xbox and PC games. Microsoft is also reportedly targeting a next-generation Xbox handheld for holiday 2027, a year before the console. The price projection still depends on whether Microsoft subsidizes part of the hardware cost.

Fortnite on Linux will require TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot

Epic is rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux, with Fortnite as the first game to test the new system. The plan is to offer EAC Linux v2 to other multiplayer developers after that, but Epic has not announced a release timeline.

The replacement uses measured boot, kernel lockdown, IOMMU, eBPF, and a dedicated anti-cheat system service instead of a Windows-style kernel-level system. Fortnite on Linux will require TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled in the system BIOS, along with a trusted signed kernel and signed drivers.

Epic is discussing EAC v2 support with Valve, but Steam Deck support is not available initially because the device lacks some required security features.

Fortnite adds Freddy Fazbear vehicle cosmetics and a Jam Track

Fortnite’s Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover is expanding beyond a single song, with Freddy Fazbear-themed vehicle items identified in the latest update. The Living Tombstone’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is coming to Fortnite Festival as a Jam Track, giving the collaboration a playable music component too.

The reported cosmetics are built around Rocket League-style vehicle customization: a “Freddy Fazbear - Octane custom decal” and the “Faz-Token - Fazbear’s favorite” wheel. That makes the update one Jam Track, one decal, and one themed wheel.

Xbox Labs tests AI-assisted ports for games on unsupported hardware

Microsoft is putting a small team inside Xbox to test AI-assisted game development, decompilation, and ports that make games run on hardware they were never designed for. That puts Xbox on the other side of the AI-modding wave: testing the same techniques instead of just reacting to them.

The group has already pointed to Windows games running on Apple Silicon, games delivered in browsers through WebAssembly and WebGPU, and games recreated inside other games. The experiments are aimed at expanding access, reviving older titles, and giving developers more creation tools while keeping existing IP protections in place; Microsoft says browser support is approaching 90% globally.

Epic’s new launcher cold-started in 5.47 seconds versus Steam’s 10.07

Epic released a preview of a redesigned game launcher for Windows, Mac, and Linux, taking direct aim at Steam’s speed advantage. The preview also brings Linux support to Epic’s ecosystem for the first time, covering Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian.

Epic’s test recorded a 5.47-second cold start versus 10.07 seconds for Steam. It also reported a roughly three-times-faster store and 30-times-faster library, plus playtime tracking and UEFN project management. Those figures are Epic’s own test results, not an independent benchmark.

Fortnite is planned for Linux after Epic rebuilds Easy Anti-Cheat around measured boot, kernel lockdown, IOMMU, and eBPF. The preview is still missing features and is not recommended for competitive Fortnite or Rocket League play before stable release.

Hood Warfare 2 turns Chicago gang warfare into a $5 Steam shooter

Hood Warfare 2 puts rival Chicago gangs into a $5 multiplayer shooter on Steam, with players fighting over neighborhoods, customizing weapons, and taking on contract-style missions. The premise is familiar Call of Duty territory, but the setting and mechanics are doing most of the work in making it go viral: players can take over streets, steal chains, and hit licks.

Early reactions have focused on the gunplay too, with positive reviews and comparisons to Call of Duty’s sniping and movement. The game is listed on Steam for $5.

LOUD reverse-sweeps a 2-1 series to reach the VALORANT Champions Shanghai final

LOUD turned a 2-1 reverse sweep into the run that carried it to the VALORANT Champions Shanghai title. The comeback win sent the team into the grand finals, where it finished the event as world champion.

The series was the clearest pressure point in LOUD’s championship path: it had to win two straight maps after falling behind. Erdeatovich then took tournament MVP honors after LOUD closed out the event.

Xbox Series S gets AMD’s latest FSR 4.1 upscaling tech

Xbox is adding AMD’s FSR 4.1 upscaling to its current consoles and ROG Xbox handhelds, giving the Series S access to AMD’s newest image-reconstruction tech. The update matters because FSR is moving beyond Radeon GPUs and into Xbox’s hardware stack, where it is being tuned separately for consoles and handhelds.

• Xbox Series X and Series S support is planned
• ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X are included

Xbox says developers will get access soon. AMD and Microsoft are also using the work as a foundation for FSR Diamond and Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox effort.
