MetaMask exits Ethereum validators after infrastructure security incident
Validator exits
MetaMask began exiting Ethereum validators after identifying a security incident in part of its infrastructure. The disruption affects staking operations, but MetaMask says its investigation found no indication that wallets or customer funds were affected. The service is non-custodial, and MetaMask does not control customers’ withdrawal keys.
Lido said the affected validators in its protocol are being exited as a precaution. That means lost rewards and possible downtime penalties while the validators move through the exit and withdrawal process before re-entering. The final validators are expected to enter the exit process by October 7, and Lido estimates ETH returns could take up to 45 days after exit and withdrawal.
