Beam Therapeutics sues Serapha Bio over alleged gene-editing IP theft

Serapha Bio’s $230 million Series A has been followed by an intellectual-property lawsuit from Beam Therapeutics, one of the companies already pursuing gene editing for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Beam alleges a former scientist accessed electronic lab notebooks and used gene-editing and lipid-nanoparticle information to help launch Shanghai-based YolTech Therapeutics.

Serapha and YolTech deny the allegations. The dispute now hangs over a crowded disease area that includes roughly 12 other companies, including Beam.
